Meet Tope Abulude — Founder and Creative Director
Tope Abulude’s path into balloon artistry began in Lagos, Nigeria, where he was completing a Master’s degree in Architecture. Accompanying a friend to decorate weddings during his studies, he discovered an instinctive connection between space, structure and celebration.
After moving to the UK, word spread quickly. Friends called on him to help dress halls for celebrations, and what began informally grew into something far more serious. Tope’s first professional balloon convention took him to Paris for the European Balloon Convention — an experience that deepened his commitment to the craft and introduced him to the international world of competitive balloon artistry. At his next convention, IBAC — the International Balloon Arts Convention held in the United States — he entered the competition for the first time and placed third with a small sculptural design of a bride. For someone competing on the international stage for the very first time, it was a result that confirmed both his ability and his direction.
His architectural training has never left him. The way Tope approaches an installation — considering ceiling heights, sightlines, guest flow and the proportions of a space — reflects a designer’s eye rather than simply a decorator’s hand. It is the reason his work feels considered and balanced rather than simply colourful.
International recognition and professional accreditation
Tope holds two of the most respected professional credentials in the balloon industry — the Certified Balloon Artist (CBA) designation and the Qualatex Approved Instructor (QAI) accreditation, both awarded by the Pioneer Balloon Company in recognition of his creative ability and teaching expertise.
Those accreditations took him around the world. Tope has delivered balloon artistry training in Hong Kong, Japan, Russia, Brazil, Australia and across Europe, working with decorators at every level from complete beginners to established professionals. In 2001 he was recognised as International Designer of the Year at IBAC — the International Balloon Arts Convention — one of the most prestigious awards in the global balloon industry.
To date he has trained thousands of students, both individually and through courses organised by industry bodies internationally. That same depth of knowledge and international perspective is applied to every installation Balloon Inspirations creates in London and Essex — and to every training course delivered from the Brentwood studio.
